How Mosaic Center & IU Health Partnered to Support Area 31 Pre-Nursing Students

On December 5, 2025, the Mosaic Center for Work, Life + Learning teamed up with Indiana University Health to support Area 31 Career Center’s Mock Interview Day, an immersive experience designed to help pre-nursing students build confidence and practice real-world communication skills. This event supports students at an early point in their journey; giving them exposure, practice, and confidence as they explore what a future in healthcare could look like.
Area 31 brings together students from 11 school districts across west-central Marion and surrounding counties. Students split their school day between their home high school and specialized training at Area 31, where programs like pre-nursing give them an early, hands-on introduction to clinical concepts and patient care fundamentals. Early exposure helps students step into healthcare with clarity and momentum.
Mock Interview Day tapped directly into that strength. With support from Mosaic Center’s K-12 Program Lead Matt DeGolyer, nursing hiring leaders and the IU Health HR team, pre-nursing students had the chance to:
- Practice realistic, one-on-one interview conversations
- Get real-time feedback on communication, professionalism, and presentation
- Build confidence in discussing their experiences, skills, and goals
This event reflects the Mosaic Center’s ongoing commitment to expand access to healthcare career pathways and support young people at the earliest stages of their journey. Through collaborations like this one, the Mosaic Center helps students strengthen foundational career-readiness skills.
At Area 31, our partnership provides students with early hands-on training and opportunities to practice essential career-readiness skills. Meanwhile, the Mosaic Center–managed IU Health High School Fellowship at Crispus Attucks offers a multi-year, work-based learning pathway for IPS students. These two opportunities serve different student groups based on their school’s offerings.
Together, early-exposure opportunities like Mock Interview Day at Area 31 and intensive pathway programs like the IU Health Fellowship at Crispus Attucks illustrate the range of ways the Mosaic Center supports youth across Marion County. Each initiative plays a different role. One offers early skill-building, the other provides a structured, work-based pipeline into healthcare careers. Yet both reflect the Mosaic Center’s commitment to creating equitable, supported pathways for Indianapolis-area students.
